The Risk Management Unit (RMU)
Established in 2011 for Somalia, the Risk Management Unit (RMU) is a recognized leader in the provision of risk management solutions. The overall objective and mission of the RMU is to ensure that the UN, its partners, and donors better understand and mitigate the risks associated with operating in Somalia. The RMU has designed and developed a number of risk management tools and services for this purpose.
The RMU team is responsive to the changing Somali landscape and the needs of the aid community. We encourage and support robust due diligence and greater information sharing with the aim of improving programme planning and implementation, as well as open dialogue regarding risk management challenges. We strive to assist in providing a greater level of assurance and transparency in programming and to reduce the scope for diversion and misappropriation.
The value of RMU’s work has been regularly recognized as best practice, including in Security Council reporting, and by the Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group (SEMG).
